Man charged in southeast Houston killing
A suspect has been charged in a fatal stabbing in southeast Houston.
Demarcus Jarrell Moses, 27, has been charged with murder in the death of 59-year-old Howard Rankins.
Houston police said Moses went to an apartment in the 8900 block of Broadway about 3:15 a.m. on Saturday. Moses knocked on the door and Rankins, who was staying there with an acquaintance, opened the door, armed with a shotgun, detectives said.
Moses crawled onto an adjacent balcony and Rankins went back into the apartment and confronted Moses at a sliding glass door next to the balcony, police said.
Moses used a knife to smash through the door, investigators said. Rankins tried to stop him, but Moses stabbed him until he collapsed, police said. Moses then stabbed Rankins several more times until he was unresponsive, investigators said.
Detectives said Moses went into the apartment and police officers later found him there, cleaning a wound he suffered during the stabbing.
Moses was arrested at the scene, where Rankins also died.
