A man has been charged with hitting a 78-year-old woman with a pickup truck and fleeing the scene.

Police said Cory Bonnefin, 20, left Irene Bourgeois to die on Mason Road and Merrymount Drive after the crash Thursday morning. She died a short time later.

According to investigators, they used information from witness descriptions to track Bonnefin down. He was arrested Saturday and charged with accident involving injury.

People who knew Bourgeois said it was not uncommon to see her walking the area a few blocks from her home at all hours of the day.

Bourgeois leaves behind an adult son who lived with her.
