CONROE, Texas -

A Conroe man may be linked to more than a dozen recent burglaries, police said.

"We're thinking it's 12 to 15," said Sgt. Dorcy Riddle of the Conroe Police Department.

David Ryan Campbell, 20, has been charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm and possession of marijuana.

Conroe police said they believe that Campbell targeted garages, cars, and trucks that were unlocked and stole guns, alcohol, jewelry, and even two expense checks made out to the city attorney, who was among the victims.

Conroe police said Campbell took a variety of valuables from vehicles and homes in the Highland Hollow and West Fork subdivisions on Friday.

A short time after the thefts, some of the stolen credit cards were used and some of the stolen items were sold, detectives said.

Investigators said they were able to track the transactions to Campbell. Police said they searched Campbell's home at the Autumn Woods Apartments and found some of the stolen items there.

Detectives said their investigation is continuing and Campbell could face more charges.

Campbell remained in the Montgomery County Jail Monday evening in lieu of $6,000 bond.

The best defense against such crimes is simply locking up your personal belongings and not leaving anything of value in plain sight, police said
