Man accused of possessing pipe bomb
A Montgomery County man was accused of having a pipe bomb in his truck when he was pulled over Friday morning for a traffic violation in Patton Village, according to police.
Police said they found a pipe bomb in the truck with Florida plates that was driving through a rural neighborhood.
Patton Village police called the ATF, the Montgomery County Fire Marshal's office and the Houston Police bomb squad. They all suited up, carried their firearms and caravanned into the owner's neighborhood on Park Lane. Police dogs searched in and around the home. Investigators said they found more bomb making components. Detectives said the man told them that he wanted to see what the bomb would do.
"They arrived. They identified the item as being an explosive device. Subsequent to that, an individual was arrested for that," Patton Village Police Sgt. Salvador Delariva said.
A witness said there were children in the home not far from a city park.
Police said the driver is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, a third degree felony. Police are not yet releasing details of the arrest of a second person.
