Man accused of making sexual comments to teen
A man has been accused of picking up a girl walking to school and making sexual comments to her.
Robert Eugene Swearingen, 62, has been charged with criminal solicitation.
La Porte police said Swearingen approached the 16-year-old De Walt High School student as she walked to school about 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 23. She accepted the ride that he offered, investigators said.
As Swearingen drove to the school, he made inappropriate comments to the girl, officials said.
The girl reported the incident to a resource officer at the school. She was embarrassed about it, officials said.
School district officials checked surveillance videos and were able to identify the car. An investigator drove around the area the next day and found that car.
Swearingen was arrested and booked into jail. He was released after posting bond.
Swearingen's criminal history includes convictions on charges of indecent exposure and driving while intoxicated.
