A 2-year-old boy was found wandering by himself, and his father now faces charges.

The boy was found in the parking lot of the apartment complex in the 8700 block of Braes Acres at about 7:20 p.m. Sunday.

Houston police said someone recognized the child and tried to take him home, but the boy's parents were not as their apartment.

Police said officers tried finding the parents, but were also unsuccessful.

Eventually, police tracked down the parents. Police said the parents had conflicting stories about where they were.

Bittu Zacharia, 34, was charged Wednesday with abandoning a child with intent to return.
