Man accused of leading deputies on chase with kids in car
Deputies: Chase started after traffic stop
Deputies said a man who led them on a high-speed chase had two small children in the back seat.
The chase started just before 12 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Ella Boulevard and F.M. 1960 when deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said they noticed the children not properly secured in car seats.
Deputies said they pulled the female driver over, and she and a male passenger got out of the car. At some point, deputies said the man jumped back into the car and took off, leaving the woman behind.
The chase ended in a field about a mile away, officials said.
"It's pretty much got stuck in the mud. There's a ditch down there and I think he saw it and stopped," said Rod Rice, who witnessed the event. "All I saw was his head pop up and then all the sheriff's right on top of him."
The man and the two young children were taken from the scene by ambulance. Officials have not said what type of injuries they suffered.
The driver's name hasn't been released.
