Man accused in 16-month-old's death
Joshua Beall
A man has been charged in connection with a toddler's death.
Joshua Beall, 28, was charged with injury to a child.
Houston police said Beall was taking care of his fiancé's 16-month-old son, Casen Wells, while she was at work on Jan. 10.
Investigators said Beall told them that Casen was standing on a cushion on the couch and fell backward, hitting his head on a coffee table and then the floor.
Beall said Casen's head started to swell, but he didn't seek help for him, police said.
Beall and Casen's mother found Casen unconscious and Casen was then taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, investigators said.
Doctors said Casen suffered a skull fracture and a subdural hematoma, and those injuries were not consistent with a fall, detectives said. Doctors said Casen appeared to have been hit with a blunt object or was struck against a blunt object.
Casen died Friday.
Additional charges could be filed after an autopsy is completed, police said.
