Onions sold at a number of Texas grocers have been recalled. Health officials said the onions were contaminated with listeria.
The onions were sold under the brand name "Gills." The onions were sold at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in Texas. The recall includes diced, slivered, whole and peeled onions, as well as celery mix. All of the products affected have an Aug. 3, 2012, 'use-by' date.
Listeria is a dangerous bacteria that can cause deadly infections. It's incubation period varies from three to 70 days.
Children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems are at a greater risk.
