Firefighters blame lightning for damaging several homes in Harris and Montgomery Counties.
In The Woodlands alone, four homes caught fire Tuesday.
According to the Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office, firefighters were battling flames at 7 Acadia Branch Place, 19 West Willowwood Court, 3 Golden Thrush Place and 26 Sawmill Grove.
The fire at the home on Acacia Branch Place reached two alarms, officials said. Firefighters took a defensive stance to protect nearby structures.
Tim Carroll said he and a friend were upstairs when they saw lightning come through the roof.
"Suddenly, this red flash... flew back in my chair, grabbed the dog," he said.
Officials said they believe the detached garage of the home on Willowwood Court was struck by lightning. It was destroyed.
Lightning struck the two-story home on Golden Thrush Place, investigators said. The roof and attic burned, officials said.
Investigators did not have information about the fire on Sawmill Grove as of 5 p.m.
The Woodlands Fire Department was handling the fires, but they called in several neighboring departments for help.
Officials have not said how much damage was done at each of the homes.
No injuries have been reported.
