A burglary suspect in Liberty County is facing a laundry list of charges after leading police on chase, crashing his vehicle into a building, and then setting it on fire to keep from being caught, officials said.
The ordeal began on Sunday.
Deputies said they were actively looking for Michael Glenn, Jr. in connection with a burglary, and when they spotted Glenn, he tried to drive away. Eventually, he crashed his car into a building.
Deputies said he refused to leave his vehicle and actually set fire to it to keep deputies away.
When they finally removed him from the vehicle, he started fighting with the deputies, investigators said. A deputy used pepper spray on Glenn, but it had little effect.
Glenn then managed to get the spray from the deputies and use it on them, officials said.
Eventually, passersby who witnessed the scuffle helped deputies get Glenn into custody. He was taken to the Liberty County Jail and put in a detox cell.
After several hours, Glenn asked to make a phone call. After a few minutes on the phone, he was told to wrap up his call, but refused and became belligerent, deputies said. More personnel were called into the booking area to get him under control, investigators said.
On the way back to his cell, deputies said Glenn managed to disarm a jail supervisor and get the supervisor's pepper spray, which he used on the supervisor. He was eventually subdued and returned to his cell.
Glenn faces several criminal charges, according to deputies, including disarming a public servant, assault on a public servant and evading arrest.
Glenn remains in the Liberty County Jail without bond.
Glenn has a lengthy criminal history with numerous prior arrests, including burglary, aggravated assault, theft and evading.
