Part of a busy freeway was shut down for several hours Monday because of a collision involving two 18-wheelers.
The collision happened in the westbound lanes of the Katy Freeway between Interstate 45 and Taylor about 4:30 a.m.
Investigators said the wreck happened when one of the 18-wheeler drivers swerved to avoid hitting debris on the road.
The wreck caused fuel to spill, so crews had to shut down that part of the freeway.
Traffic was backed up for miles and many drivers were stuck on the freeway for a few hours.
"We've been at a standstill," said Jackie Warren, who was stuck on a bus. "If I knew that (would happen), I would have brought some coffee and doughnuts."
The cleanup was completed about 8 a.m. and all lanes reopened.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
