HOUSTON -

The White House announced a new plan for the children of illegal immigrants. Right after the recent Rose Garden comments by President Obama, supporters and opponents began taking sides.

In Harris County, where the Hispanic population is more than 40% and is the fastest growing ethnic group, there are strong opinions.

Marcus Pena,Chairman of the Federation of Hispanic Republicans of Greater Harris County, says it is a bad idea and gave his reasons on this weeks'  Houston Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall.

Also joining Khambrel in this discussion, State Representative Ana Hernandez Luna who for 8 years was an undocumented immigrant after her family overstayed a Visa while she was a child.

She says the efforts by the White House are good first steps toward an effective immigration policy and dismisses accusations that it is a blatant political ploy and election year politics.

It is a passionate conversation that presents both sides of a very passionate topic.

Also this week, conversations with Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz who are battling for the Republican party  nomination for the Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Both men are spending millions to try and win the run off election on July 31 and accusing each other of not being conservative enough.

Ted Cruz says the fact he's getting lots of financial support from Texas and  around the nation is a sign that he is the grass roots candidate.

Dewhurst says that out of state money puts Cruz in the pockets of organizations that have Washington and not Texas concerns as priorities.

Both men sit down separately with Khambrel Marshall.
