Refugees from all over the world call Houston home and many of them will be celebrated during World Refugee Week.
As many as 3,000 refugees settle in Houston each year, representing a significant percentage of those settled throughout the United States.
Dario Lipovac was a refugee himself when he and his family were approved for resettlement from the former Yugoslavia. He and his family are still here and he is now the Director of Resettlement Services for the YMCA International. He joined Khambrel Marshall as a guest on Houston Newsmakers.
The Texas Black Expo has grown from a weekend party almost a decade ago to what is now several days of programs and events designed to inspire entrepreneurial spirit and provide seminars, health screenings and entertainment.
Jerome Love is the founder and president and he joined Khambrel, along with Greg Ortale, the president and chief executive officer of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, to talk about the impact the event will have next weekend in southeast Texas.
Because of French Open coverage, Houston Newsmakers for Sunday, June 10 aired at 10 a.m., on THIS TV, KPRC digital channel 2.2 and Comcast channel 320.
