HOUSTON -

With a few afternoon showers and thunderstorms popping up around the area, you might be wondering if your evening fireworks viewing plans are in jeopardy because of the weather. Fireworks displays shouldn't be canceled, although there may be some stray showers lingering into the early evening as people head out early to stake their claim on prime viewing real estate.

The rain should be very isolated, with a few showers producing heavy downpours and some lightning. While severe weather is never entirely out of the question, it will be unlikely for the remainder of the day.  Regardless, keep an eye to the sky and find shelter if you happen to be in the path of one of the more intense storms.  Check out current radar at JustWeather.com to see exactly where the storms are.

The rain is forming along the southeasterly sea breeze and is energized by afternoon heating.  As evening nears and temperatures back off, the rain will taper off and, eventually, end completely before the many area fireworks displays begin.  Look for a significant decrease in activity by 7 p.m.
