Jan. 29: Texas primary, red-light cameras
Jan 29: Texas primary in jeopardy?
Several topics are on the front burner of this week's Beyond the Headlines. First, is the Texas primary in jeopardy? What progress is being made in drawing up new congressional districts in Texas? Three courts, including the Supreme Court, are weighing in on the legality of district maps as drawn by the Texas legislature. What seems clear is that any map as currently proposed will not get the court's blessing. Joining Khambrel to discuss the merits of the maps as currently drawn and the chances of reaching agreement on new ones are State Sen. Mario Gallegos (D-TX), Vice Chair of the Senate select committee on redistricting, Chris Begala, Republican strategist and Marc Campos, democratic strategist.
Also discussed -- Why are Houston's red light cameras still in litigation: When voters decided to turn them off two years ago that should have been the end of it. Now a final compromise is being held up by still more litigation. Joining me were Andy Taylor, the attorney for American Traffic Solutions, the company responsible for the red lights, and Mike Kubosh whose family pushed for the repeal of the red lights and who now has filed to stop a final judgment by the city.
Rounding out this week's discussion -- former Harris County Democratic Chair Gerry Birnberg joins Chis Begala in a conversation about the GOP primary and the battle within the party to derail Newt Gingrich.
Join host Khambrel Marshall for a lively half hour on all these questions and more.
