A body was found in an east Houston street Monday.
Houston police said a resident spotted the dead man lying in a pool of blood at 6700 Avenue U at 67th Street at 5:30 a.m.
Police said it may be a hit-and-run.
"We are trying to get a time for when this may have taken place and we are gathering between the hours of 3 and 4 this may have occurred. But no gunshots were reported at this time," said Ramon Cervantes with the Houston Police Department.
Residents said they recognized the victim.
"He is someone who some of the neighbors here have identified as being from the neighborhood," Cervantes said.
An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
The victim's name was not released. He was only described as being in his 40s or 50s.
