A McDonald's restaurant manager in Sydney, Australia is under investigation after police said he threw boiling oil in the face of a customer.

Authorities said the customer suffered severe burns to his face, chest and arms after he got into an argument with the restaurant manager and then jumped over the counter to confront him, the Wentworth (Australia) Courier reported.

According to the publication, police have not charged the manager in the fracas, as they are still investigating whether he acted in self-defense.

Witnesses told officers that the victim swore at the manager and threatened to kill him before jumping over the counter, and the manager warned him to stay back.

Police said the victim may have been under the influence of alcohol during the incident.

The man is being treated for his burns at an area hospital.
