A woman says she’s too scared to sleep in her own home after a man robbed her at gunpoint just steps from her front door.
“I had a stable life and now it's like, in a blink of an eye, my whole life has turned upside down,” said Brittany Tatum.
The incident took place at an apartment complex on Cypress Station Drive in north Harris County.
Tatum, 19, said she was walking up the stairs to her apartment just after dawn Sunday when a man started talking to her.
“I just thought he was trying to hit on me. And then it happened so fast. It happened within like 30 seconds,” said Tatum.
According to Tatum, the man pulled out a gun and demanded her purse. But before she could respond, he grabbed it and took off running.
“I never thought in a million years I'd be robbed at gunpoint,” she said.
Investigators said the robber also took her iPhone and hundreds in cash. Tatum said he also took her peace of mind at home.
“I'm so paranoid now. I'm not sleeping good. Anytime I hear a noise, I'm jumping up, like 'What is there?' I'm paranoid of men now,” she said.
According to Tatum, the man who robbed her left behind a clue for investigators.
“He did drop papers for an ultra sound that somebody had got like mid-February and he dropped a Babies ‘R’ Us bag. Like somebody had just registered,” she said.
The teenager said she’s hoping evidence will eventually lead investigators to a suspect.
“I want him to be caught because I don't want it to happen to anybody else, because the next person might not be as lucky as me,” said Tatum. “Valuable things can be replaced. I just thank god I still have my life.”
The gunman is described as a black male, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, and with gold teeth, thick eyebrows with a fade haircut.
Authorities said he was seen wearing jeans and a black jacket.
