Investigation under way after boy from Amber Alert found
An investigation was launched Monday after a 12-year-old, who was the subject of an Amber Alert, had a bruise on his arm when he was found.
An Amber Alert was issued around 5:50 a.m. Monday when the boy disappeared Sunday afternoon from his mother's apartment at the Villas at Cypresswood apartments. The alert was cancelled a short time later because Harris County deputies said the child was not abducted.
Investigators said on Sunday, a Kroger employee found the middle school student wandering around the inside of a store and told him to go home.
However, a source told KPRC Local 2 that instead of going home, the boy walked across the parking lot to an office building, where he slept on the concrete all night long. When he woke up, he walked back to Kroger, where officers found him hours later.
Investigators said the boy was too scared to go home and he had a suspicious bruise on his arm, so he was taken to Child Protective Services.
CPS officials said they have launched an investigation.
It's not yet determined whether the child will go back to his mother's apartment or stay with relatives who live outside of Houston.
