Parents in Houston were saddened when they heard about the school shooting in Connecticut.
The gunman killed 26 people, including 20 children, at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., on Friday morning. The gunman's mother was a teacher at the school and was among the victims, officials said.
Parents of students who attend Bonham Elementary in southwest Houston said they couldn't imagine what the parents of the victims were going through.
"Sad for the kids, parents," Carolina Romero said. "I have two kids and another child that might go to this school, so it's concerning. It's sad that we have to go through this in this world."
"You send your kids off to school and expect them to be safe," Joel Donawl said. "It seems like, these days, it's hard to come by, as far as that sense of security."
