HOUSTON -

Catholics in the Houston area are waiting to know who will become the next pope, but many said Tuesday that they hope the cardinals take their time and pick the right man for the job.

"I don't think it's going to happen today … to choose the right person," Houstonian Jesus Garcia said. "Maybe Thursday, but we are going to continue praying."

There were more people than normal at the 7 a.m. mass at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Houston. Most of the people who attended agreed that the next pope will have to be a true leader who can understand the views of all people.

More masses were scheduled to be held throughout the day.
