HOUSTON -

A towering 67-foot tall Christmas tree will start lighting up downtown Houston starting Friday night.

The Mayor's Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting is presented by Reliant, with fireworks by Southwest Airlines.

The festivities will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the Upper Plaza of City Hall, 901 Bagby St.

Featured entertainers to help light up the night will include Grammy Award winner Diane Schuur, American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, and others.

Immediately following the performances, the official holiday tree will be lit.

Santa Claus will be available for photos.

The event is free and open to public.
