A Houston meat market has one of the best burgers in the United States.
USA Today named the burger at Guy's Meat Market, 3106 Old Spanish Trail, one of the top 10 great places to sink your teeth into a burger.
Steve Free owns the market that has been in business since 1938. He said he never thought his half-pound burger would be considered one of the best.
"Proud, really surprised," he said. "We try hard. This is the reward."
Free said the burgers are prepared at 10 a.m. and smoked for an hour, then employees sprinkle a touch of special seasoning on top.
"Put on a pit, cooked for an hour," Free said. "Not just thrown on a flat grill and flipped over one or two times. It's actually cooked with a rotisserie grill.
Customers line up out the door to buy one of the burgers.
"They're good, real good," customer Marvin Debose said. "They take their time, and they make them the way you want them to make them."
Only 100 burgers are prepared each day, and they're sold between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
