HOUSTON -

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend will provide flawless weather for any outdoor plans you have.

Temperatures will be seasonable, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s through Monday and beyond. You'll need jackets in the morning, maybe a light sweater in the afternoon, and don't forget your sunglasses as you head out the door!

This weekend's weather pattern is much more tranquil than that we had at the start of the week.  High pressure is in control and will provide a gentle southeast wind through Sunday.  That will provide a slow, steady warm-up as we bathe in the sun and draw in mild Gulf air.

On Monday, an unimpressive cold front will limp through the area without causing much of a stir.  Don't expect any rain on MLK Day.  In fact, don't expect many clouds, either.  The atmosphere will be moisture-starved, so the only shift in our weather will be a wind shift.  A northeast breeze will take over and put the brakes on our warming trend.  It won't cause a big cool down, though, as temperatures will stay in the 60s in the afternoon.

Fortunately, for those of us who are enjoying the break from the wet, cold, gloomy weather from earlier this week, the bright and relatively balmy weather will hang around through most of next week.  In fact, temperatures will be in the 70s by next Thursday.  Our next chance for rain will be next Friday.
