HOUSTON -

The effects of the drought can be seen across Memorial and Hermann Parks, where workers have been cutting down trees to make sure the dead trees don't fall on people or even cars.

The heavy rains over the weekend also forced many residents that to cut down trees and branches that had fallen in their yards.

On Sunday night, workers had to cut up a tree that fell across Benz street near the Medical Center.

The wet soil could not support the roots. That was the case all around the Houston area.

"If you go on the side and look at the grass, it's like, it had already come up partially. So it was already blocking most of the fence line," said resident Margie Smith.

An elderly couple in northwest Harris County was actually trapped in their home when a tree snapped, falling on power lines and started a fire.
