HPD: Shots fired during attempted robbery in west Houston

Shots were fired during an attempted robbery at a west Houston antiques store, investigators said.

Houston police said two men walked into Market Place Antiques in the 10900 block of the Katy Freeway near Wilcrest about 10:45 a.m. on Friday.

The owner, Harry Little, 70, said he believed the men were going to rob the store.

"As soon as they came around the corner, I knew what was going to happen," Little said.

Police said that as one of the men reached for a pistol in his pants, Little reached for his gun.

"I was reaching for my gun and he pulled (his gun) out before I could do anything," Little said. "He said, 'Don't do that, don't do that,' and he was sticking his gun in my face. I just knew he was going to pull the trigger."

Little said the gunman was distracted for a split second, so he reached for his gun again.

"I thought, 'I got to go for it,' and that's what I did," Little said. "As soon as I pulled my gun out, this guy started taking off -- the guy with the gun -- and the other one, he started to, too, and I shot."

Officials have not said if anyone was wounded.

Descriptions of the suspects have not been released.
