HOUSTON -

A man in a wheelchair has been accused of stealing from an elderly man and beating him with his own cane.

George Pulido San Miguel, 53, has been charged with injury to the elderly.

Houston police said San Miguel saw an 88-year-old man playing a violin in the 6900 block of Woodridge on June 1.

The man's violin case was open next to him, officials said. San Miguel stole the chase and rolled across the street, police said.

San Miguel told the 88-year-old man to come and get his case, police said. The elderly man then followed San Miguel behind a gas station, officials said.

San Miguel grabbed the man's cane and hit him with it, investigators said. The man fell and San Miguel fled the scene, officials said.

The man was taken to Southeast Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.

About a week later, the man and his grandson drove through the same area and spotted San Miguel. They called police and San Miguel was arrested.

San Miguel is being held in the Harris County Jail with bond set at $5,000.

San Miguel's criminal history includes charges of driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, burglary and evading and resisting arrest.
