HPD: Father stabs family, kills baby
8-month-old baby killed in stabbing
An 8-month-old baby girl died Saturday after police said her father, Jose Pedro Rojas-Martinez, 23, stabbed his entire family.
The baby, her mother and two-year-old brother were attacked at their home in a trailer park off Telephone Road near Fuqua in southeast Houston at 1 a.m. Saturday, investigators said.
The police said they were called to the crime scene to stop an assault in progress. Authorities said that's when they saw 19-year-old Erica Rojas through the window, bleeding while her husband held her at knifepoint.
"As they (police) approached a little closer towards the window, they noticed that there were two young children on the floor bleeding as well," said HPD Homicide Sgt. Eli Cisneros. "Two other officers entered through an open rear door of the trailer and from the back-end. They actually managed to Taser the suspect and wrestled a knife from his hand."
Police said Rojas-Martinez tried to kill himself after the attack.
All four family members were taken to the hospital, where investigators say the 8-month-old girl was pronounced dead. The mother and the little boy both underwent surgery.
Rojas-Martinez appeared in court on Saturday and was charged with capital murder under 6 years old. He is being held in the Harris County Jail without bond.
