HOUSTON -

A man died following a major accident in southwest Houston on Tuesday.

Police said the driver of a car was speeding on Bellaire Boulevard and Cook Road at around 11:30 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle. Investigators said his car went off the road and slammed into an electric pole. The car and the pole were cut in half, police said.

Investigators said the driver was thrown from his car.

Houston Police said they suspect the drive was intoxicated, but a medical examiner will have to confirm that.
