HPD: Driver dies after SUV flies over fence

HOUSTON -

A driver was killed Monday morning after his vehicle flew over an 8-foot fence, police said.

Houston police said a 61-year-old man in a 1997 Ford Explorer was speeding eastbound in the 3900 block of Almeda Genoa Road when he went off the roadway about 9:40 a.m.

Investigators said the vehicle hit a concrete culvert, flew over an 8-foot fence and then hit a tree in the front yard of a home.

The driver died at the scene. His name has not been released. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
