HOUSTON -

Houston Police said a store owner shot a man when he tried to rob the Cricket cell phone store on the 610 Loop, South, Wednesday at about 6:00 p.m.

Police said a man walked into the store and pulled a gun. That's when, police said, the store owner pulled his own gun and shot the suspect twice.

Police said the suspect jumped into a waiting getaway car and went to the hospital in Pearland where the suspect died from his injuries. Police said the getaway car and driver were waiting behind the hospital. The getaway driver was questioned Wednesday night. Police said he could face an aggravated robbery charge.

The store owner and an employee are okay. Nothing was stolen from the store.

Police said the suspect left the handgun inside the store. Police will refer this case to the grand jury. Officers said the store owner had a license to carry the handgun. Investigators will look at surveillance video of the attempted robbery.
