HOUSTON -

Police have found a child who wandered away from home on Monday.

Houston police said a 7-year-old autistic boy walked out the back door of a home on Fondren near South Braeswood on Monday morning.

A passer-by found the child at a nearby apartment complex and took him to the management office. The child was then taken to Child Protective Services.

The boy's mother reported him missing sometime between 2 and 3 p.m., police said.

Investigators said the mother may have been sleeping when the boy left the home.
