HOUSTON -

Some contract workers on the job for HISD were being asked to pay back money they were paid by the district.

Officials said that money was paid to certain employees in advance for time they had not yet worked. When those employees leave the district, they are expected to pay earnings back.

The district is offering the employees two ways to pay it back.

They may repay the money with leave time they have accumulated or pay through a payroll deduction.
