HOUSTON -

The Houston Independent School District announced Wednesday the construction timeline for the 40 schools scheduled to be built or renovated.  It's being made possible thanks to voters who passed a $1.89 billion bond program back in November.

"We are ready to move forward with the most ambitious school rebuilding effort in Texas history and deliver on our promises," said HISD Superintendent Terry Grier.

Parents are ready, too.  Dads who have children attending Condit Elementary in Bellaire said they were pleased to learn that school is on the list to see renovations start in 2014.

"The school is a great school," said Jason Wintz. "But the facilities are aging."

"Condit is a great school with great teachers," said John Holcomb. "But the building is 30 to 40 years old."

The first two schools to break ground will be North Early College and South Early College with construction starting this summer.  All of the other schools will be phased in over the next five years.

The district's plans include having all of the construction projects completed by 2020.

Group 1 schools – construction anticipated to begin by end of 2014

Group 2 schools – construction anticipated to begin mid/late 2015
