Bats found in school

BAYTOWN, Texas -

Officials at a Goose Creek County school are trying to figure out how bats made their way inside the building.

Workers at Gentry Junior High found bats in the eaves of the school at the top of the building, said a Goose Creek Independent School District spokesperson.

The district spokeswoman said parents were not notified because the bats were not seen in public areas.

Some parents said they should have known about the bats before school employees warned children not to touch the animals.

"No letter. No nothing. This school? Oh wow! I need to get into the school, then. These are our children. They have bats in the school. Aren't those things nasty?" said Amanda Holloman, a parent.

The district hired United Bats Company to remove the bats, find out how they got into the school, and to make sure they can't return.
