Days before the start of fourth grade, one girl said she got the scare of her life when someone tried to grab her steps from a playground.
"He started touching me. I had a pony tail and he pulled my hair hard. He pulled me towards him. That's when I got away and ran for my grandma's house," Damyra Washington said.
The 9-year-old was staying with her grandmother at the time of incident. The playground was inside a gated apartment complex, the Crescent City Apartments at 8501 Broadway.
Damyra said she had wandered away from the playground for a few minutes to use a restroom, and that is when the man approached her.
The girl described the suspect as Asian, short and he had a moustache. It is unclear whether the man lives inside the apartment complex. Apartment complex managers could not immediately recall any resident matching that description.
"There's some sick individuals out there in the world, today," Damyra's mother, Dejuana Thompson, said.
The girl had no visible marks on her and said that next time she needs to use the restroom she will make sure her older sister is with her.
Houston police said they are in the process of assigning the case to an individual investigator.
