HOUSTON -

It's flu and tax season and there is free help for both.

Free flu shots for children 6 months to 18 years will be offered Saturday at the Houston Fire Department Val Janke Training Facility at 8030 Braniff near Hobby Airport.

The fire department and the Care Van program will provide the free vaccines from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Several organizations are offering free tax help, including the United Way Neighborhood Centers and AARP.

There are multiple locations where the services are being offered including Houston Libraries.

Free building materials for churches, Scout troops and other nonprofit groups are available at the city of Houston ReUse Center on North Main. Everything from tile to lumber is available. On the day we stopped by, someone had even donated an old piano from the Rice Hotel.  Anyone can drop off materials but you must show proof of nonprofit designation to "shop" for free materials.

The Houston Zoo will have free admission on Tuesday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Free beads will be raining from Mardi Gras floats in Galveston for the next two weekends.

The Mystic Krewe of Aquarius kick off parade will be Saturday at noon on the Seawall followed by another parade at 6 p.m.

Sunday families can get free admission to the entertainment district as part of Family Gras.
