It's the weekend before Halloween and with the chill in the air there are lots of free outside celebrations to enjoy.
The annual citywide Halloween celebration Scream on the Green is downtown Saturday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be costume contests for adults, children, babies and even dogs. The celebration at Discovery Green downtown is also billed to have a DJ, dancing, fortune tellers, caricature artists, living statues and mad science fun.
If your costume is groovy, head on over to Miller Theater for a free show called "This is the 60s." The show is billed as a live concert with historical film clips, music and dance. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Gremlins will be the stars of the free Friday night film at the Montrose Whole Foods, 701 Waugh Dr. Don't forget your lawn chair and blanket. The cinema will be the parking lot. The Gremlins come out at 8 p.m.
Orange Show artists will teach you how to turn your one-of-a-kind pumpkin into a work of art on Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Orange Show Monument, 2402 Munger.
The hands-on workshop is free but it is a BYOP -- bring your own pumpkin.
Moody Gardens in Galveston will have free trick or treating Sunday, Oct. 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Ghostly Gardens. There are also creepy crafts, face-painting and a children's costume contest. Guests of all ages are encouraged to dress up in their favorite Halloween costume on Sunday to receive $5 admission to each Moody Gardens attraction.
