Firefighters calendar raises money for burned children
The new 2013 Houston firefighters calendar is just days away from going on sale.
Proceeds from sales of the calendar go to the Houston Firefighter's Burned and Crippled Children's Fund, which helps provide vital medical equipment to children injured in fires. The funds help buy garments used to help control scarring and shorten a child's rehabilitation time.
In 2010, more than 250 pediatric patients at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital where provided the pressure garments thanks to proceeds from calendar sales.
Local 2 got a preview of this year's calendar. The firefighters train three to four months to get ready to pose for the calendar. Some years, more than 100 firefighters try to make the cut.
Landon, Mr. August, is making his calendar debut.
"I'll do it for the benefits of it – helping out the kids, helping out the community," said.
Calendar sales also help support Camp Janus. It's a summer camp where burned children can interact with other children who have been victims of fire.
The firefighters will premiere the 2013 calendar at 8 p.m. Friday at Whiskey River on West F.M. 1960. They will be signing calendars and putting on a show.
