Fire captain accused of having child porn quits
Saul "Abe" Fiszer also accused of having relationship with teen
Accused fire captain quits from behind bars
A fire captain is no longer employed after being accused of having child porn and an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old.
Houston police arrested Saul "Abe" Fiszer, who was employed by the Houston Fire Department, after investigators said they found hundreds of illegal pictures and videos of child pornography. Police said he also traded the porn.
Fiszer submitted his resignation from his jail cell on Friday.
"We took the documents to him and he was able to sign those documents," Fire Chief Terry Garrison said.
Investigators said Fiszer's wife tipped them off.
"The defendant's wife actually became suspicious that he was engaging in extramarital activity, so she looked on his cell and computer," said Donna Hawkins with the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
According to court documents, Fiszer's wife called them after she discovered he was calling and sending sexually-explicit text messages to a girl in Casper, Wyo. Fiszer's wife called the girl who in turn admitted to sparking up a relationship with Fiszer after meeting him online.
Soon after the investigation began in Harris County, officers in Wyoming seized the teen's computer and cellphone. Detectives in Houston seized Fiszer's laptop and hard drives.
"When they executed the warrant, they found over 450 images of child porn. Also, they found videos of child pornography," Hawkins said.
The evidence, according to court documents, revealed Fiszer not only tried to lure the teen, but he had sexually-explicit videos and photos of boys and girls as young as 4 years old.
"For us, this is probably the worst news that we could hear," Garrison said.
Fiszer was assigned to Station 21 and had been with HFD for 17 years.
Fiszer has been charged with three counts of possession of child pornography.
"The Houston Fire Department is surprised and saddened, just like the rest of the community," Garrison said.
Fire department officials said they have launched an investigation to see if Fiszer misused the department's computers or other equipment.
If convicted, Fiszer faces up to 10 years for each count.
