A father is facing a felony charge after, police said, he used an electrical cord to beat his 9-year-old son.

Police said Jarel Harris and his son where inside a store shopping on Feb. 4.

Harris yelled at his son for being disobedient and said he was in big trouble, detectives said.

When Harris drove back to his home on Howcher Street near Leitrim Way, he used an electrical cord to hit his son on his legs and arms, investigators said.

The cuts and bruises left behind were so severe that the boy was taken to Texas Children's Hospital, officials said.

Harris has been charged with injury to a child.
