Deer Park -

Deer Park police are sending out a warning to residents because scammers are pretending to be law enforcement.

Police said the crooks call their victims from a number that comes up on caller ID as being from a local police department.

Then they identify themselves as a either police or Drug Enforcement Agency agents and say the recipient have a warrant and need to pay $5,000 or risk being arrested.

Police say the crooks even threaten the recipient by saying officers are on their way to their house or work to arrest them if you don't pay up.

If you receive one of these phone calls, police suggest hanging up and contacting the local police immediately.

The Deer Park Police Department also wants to reminded residents to never give their credit or debit card information over the telephone to anyone.
