AUSTIN, Texas -

Former Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle has been laid to rest in Austin, Texas, after a 200-mile procession from his hometown southwest of Dallas. A white hearse carrying the flag-draped coffin was among 200 vehicles in the procession.

Family members and fellow SEALS watched the burial amid the sounds of drums and bagpipes.

Kyle, considered to be the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history, was killed along with a friend earlier this month at a gun range. An Iraq War veteran is charged in the killings.

Kyle completed four tours in Iraq and wrote the best-selling book "American Sniper."

Hundreds of people gathered on roads stretching nearly a mile from the cemetery. There were combat veterans in leather jackets, and businessmen in suits on their lunch break from the nearby state Capitol building.

Yesterday, some 7,000 people attended a two-hour memorial service for Kyle at Cowboys Stadium near Dallas.
