Traffic in a very busy area of Houston became problematic Tuesday when crews shut down part of a major road.

Three westbound lanes of Westheimer Road from Post Oak to Sage, directly in front of The Galleria mall, closed about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and were expected to remain closed for four to five hours.

The city's public works department said the closure was needed to make roadway repairs caused by a water main break that occurred Monday.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area.
