East Texas high school student dies in wreck
East Texas girl dies in minivan wreck, vehicle carried 9 students, teens skipped school
An East Texas high school student has been killed and four others hurt in a minivan accident when all nine teens in the vehicle skipped school.
The Department of Public Safety on Tuesday identified the fatality as 16-year-old Loida Trinidad of Pittsburg. The minivan hit a bridge guard rail Monday morning.
Pittsburg Independent School District superintendent Judy Pollan says the students didn't show up for classes and officials believe the teens were headed to Lake Bob Sandlin.
Trooper Jean Dark says a 15-year-old girl is hospitalized in critical condition. Hospital officials Tuesday declined to release further details. The other three girls have injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Four boys, including the driver, weren't injured. All of the boys and just one surviving girl wore seat belts.
