Duo accused of squatting in soldier's home
Deputies: 2 found squatting in soldier's home
A man and woman have been accused of squatting in a home belonging to a soldier deployed to Afghanistan and selling what was inside.
Faylisa Bailey, 30, and J.W. Bell, 47, were arrested Tuesday.
Liberty County sheriff's deputies said the duo took over a home on County Road 328 near Cleveland about three days ago.
"They literally went to one of the back bedrooms, got a mattress, made up a bed and set up house," Capt. Rex Evans said.
The home belongs to a soldier deployed to Afghanistan and his wife, who is staying at Fort Hood while he is abroad.
Deputies said relatives of the couple drove by the home and saw the couple's belongings sprawled across the lawn.
"The first deputy pulled up in the driveway and there were people out here looking at some of the items," Evans said. "They had no idea this was a criminal enterprise."
Investigators said Bailey and Bell were having a yard sale, selling everything from the couple's furniture to their family photos.
"The belongings to the homeowner, they put in the yard and started selling it for quick cash," Evans said.
Deputies said they searched the house and found several bags of meth, syringes and spoons used to cook the drug in order to inject it.
Bailey and Bell have been charged with burglary and drug possession. Investigators said the two were on parole for prior drug possession convictions.
