MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -

Deputies are trying to figure out if rain was to blame for a deadly accident that caused a man's car to burst into flames.

The crash happened Saturday just after 5 p.m. between FM 2854 and SH 105 on McChelob Road and Copeland Chapel Cemetery Road in Montgomery County.

Investigators say it just started raining when a man driving north in a Nissan Extera lost control at a curve.  According to deputies, the driver slid sideways into the southbound lanes and was struck by another car.  Witnesses told authorities a small fire started within seconds, but then erupted into flames.  The driver died in the car at the scene.

Lake Conroe Fire Department arrived and quickly put out the fire.  McCelob Road was closed for several hours until 9 p.m. while authorities investigated the scene.

A woman and her two children were in the second car.  They were all taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
