Driver dies in car fire

HOUSTON -

A driver died after a vehicle crashed and caught fire in southwest Houston.

The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities said the driver lost control on South Beltway 8, exiting onto Almeda Road.

The driver then slammed into a barricade on the feeder and flipped into a wooded area, where the vehicle caught fire, police said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's name was not released.

The feeder and Almeda Road exit ramp were closed for several hours while the Harris County Sheriff's Office investigated.
