A man died after he crashed his car into a tree in northwest Houston.

Houston police said the crash happened as the driver traveled west on Tidwell Road lost control of his car near Balbo Street about 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Police said the car went off the road and onto the median, where it crashed head-on into a tree.  The car then caught fire, officials said.

The driver died at the scene. His name has not been released.
